DONIPHAN — Before Sutton’s Reed Stone even threw a pitch, his offense gave him four runs to work with after its first at-bat.
That wasn’t the only advantage the righty had on Thursday night in his team’s 16-1 victory over Doniphan-Trumbull.
Stone also knew where he needed to locate his pitches, having played with the same umpire for more than a couple seasons now. In six innings of work, he earned 11 strikeouts — including six that left Cardinals’ batters looking.
“(The umpire) loves the outside corner,” he said. “I lived off of that and I got a lot of kids looking on that.”
