Quick start boosts JIH

Johnson Imperial Homes' Nick Hamburger pitches against
York Friday night at Duncan Field.

Maybe it was those camouflage jerseys. Or maybe it was just Nick Hamburger's day.

Whatever it was, the Johnson Imperial Homes junior American Legion baseball team had everything going in its 14-0 win over York on Friday night.

On his birthday, Hamburger started on the mound and allowed just one hit in four innings of work while striking out four batters. Meanwhile, JIH scored 10 runs in the first inning after sending 14 batters to the plate to take the early lead.

"(Coach Blake Marquardt) did one nice thing in his life, letting me start on my birthday. That's not his usual, but he was nice," Hamburger joked afterward. "I thought I could've done better but I got some confidence against (York) and it was a pretty good day."
