FPB beats familiar foe

Five Points Bank's Vinny Schmidt pitches against Lexington Wednesday
at Duncan Field.

Wednesday marked the second time in four days that the Five Points Bank American Legion baseball team took the field with Lexington as its opponent.

In fact, after FPB visits Lexington on Tuesday, the two teams would have played three times in a span of 10 days.

Before Hastings engaged in its rematch with Lexington, FPB fell 8-3 to Cheyenne (Wyo.) Post 6.

But Five Points Bank bounced back in the night cap and continued to shut down Lexington, winning 8-0 in six innings.

"I know the first game, we didn't really play to our capability, so we needed a nice bounce-back win to get things going for our doubleheader (Thursday) as well as into the weekend," said FPB assistant coach Garrett Catron. "It was a big win for us. To come out after a tough loss in the first game and bounce back, it was a good win."

Hastings defeated Lexington 18-2 on Sunday in the Grand Island/Kearney tournament. And while Wednesday's victory wasn't quite so lopsided, the outcome was never in real doubt.
