Spady catch secures win for JIH

Johnson Imperial Homes' Grant Schmidt (left) and Cole
Spady celebrate Spady's game-winning catch in right
field Tuesday at Duncan Field.

Matt Krontz pitched a complete game and pitched himself out of a few jams along the way to give Johnson Imperial Homes a 3-2 win over Grand Island 5-Points Bank on Tuesday.

JIH led 3-0 heading into the final inning when Grand Island made a late comeback. With the tying run on first base and Ryan Kardiskowski at the plate, the defense behind Krontz helped secure the win.

Kardikowski hit a line drive down the right field line when JIH right fielder Cole Spady made a diving catch across his body to get the final out of the game.

“That’s a do-or-die play. Cole is the type of kid who wants the ball in his hands. He took a chance at it and, obviously, wanted to make a play. It’s a play that if he misses it, things could get interesting. But if he makes it, we win. He made it, and I tip my hat to him.”
