FACES OF SPORTS: Tracy (Stickels) Douglas

Hastings High's Tracy (Stickels) Douglas (center) plays
against Kearney on January 31, 1989. Douglas will take over
the roll of activities director at Hastings High.

As she transitions from her position as an assistant principal at Hastings High to the activities director, Tracy Douglas has a lot of confidence in her abilities.

She credits that to her athletic background and the lessons she learned in her time as a Hastings High Tiger, Hastings College Bronco and high school coach.

She feels she can share her own experiences with current student-athletes and coaches at the school.

"Just drawing on those experiences as a player, and the stuff I learned at college will help," Tracy said. "I reflect all the time with people about stepping onto the court and nothing else matters.

"I learned a lot about preparation and putting in the time to be successful. You build and learn those things as a player and then, as a coach, you transfer those ideas that you learned as a player to them.

"As an athletic director, can you have that same influence on the coaches you're supervising?"

Perhaps the No. 1 thing she has learned is to not make it all about yourself.
