I
Baltimore project 'long time' coming

City Engineer Dave Wacker answers questions from
community members about the renovation of Baltimore
Avenue Thursday night at the City Building.

For the last 35 years, Jim Krebsbach has woken up many mornings to the sound of trucks and trailers rumbling through the potted crevices that line Baltimore Avenue in front of his home.

As of this week, however, he and his neighbors are enthusiastic about a city project that will improve the rutted road and ease the traffic flow through the area.

The city of Hastings and Hastings Utilities are in the planning stages of a project that will mill and repave Baltimore Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2014 or early 2015.

The city has hired Olsson Associates, a Nebraska road construction and design firm, to implement the design stages of the project. The design and outline of the project were presented to a group of 10 citizens and business owners who attended a public meeting Thursday night at the Hastings City Building.

The mood amongst the property owners was enthusiastic.
