trucks. It has been exactly a year since the Hastings Fire
Department took over ambulance service.
Then: When the clock struck midnight ushering in the first day of March 2012, the emergency medical services in Hastings and Adams County were transferred from Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to the new Hastings Fire and Rescue.
Now: In the hours before the one-year anniversary officially started, members of the Hastings Fire and Rescue sat down to talk about all the trials, challenges and celebrations they've had with the new endeavor.
For many years, the Hastings Fire Department followed paramedics from Rural/Metro to emergency calls, assisting where they could but mostly watching as paramedics assisted patients.
So when the fire department took over the EMS duties a year ago, people were hesitant about the change from rural emergency responders to Hastings residents and even some of the firefighters themselves.
Many have changed their tune since.
