Visitors make their way through the Hastings College art
gallery during the Black Light Art Show reception Sunday
afternoon.
A heavy sheet of black cloth guards the entrance to the Hastings College Art Gallery, protecting posters and sculptures glowing the colors of highlighter markers.
Pat Nelsen, a non-traditional HC junior majoring in studio art, curated the black light art show on display at the gallery. She took the idea of a black light art show to Turner McGehee, chairman of the college's art department.
"I just kept coming to him like 'I want to do this. Is it possible?' He never said no," she said. "He just kept listening to me. You know how people are: You present a project, 'Well, let's see you develop it.' "
Dozens of visitors wandered through the gallery at 711 E. Seventh St. during an opening reception Sunday afternoon.
The show will be on display until April 5. Regular gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
