Four Adams County residents filed Monday for election to public office, which was the last day for non-incumbents to file.
Bill Johnson of Roseland filed as a Republican for the Adams County Board of Supervisors District 3.
He joins two other Republican candidates in the race: Jennifer Czekai and Jim Kostal, both of Ayr. No Democratic candidates have filed, meaning the election will be decided in the primary election.
Tony R. Collins of Juniata and Tim J. O’Dey of 3020 S. Smokey Hill Road filed Monday for the Adams Central Board of Education. Those filings bring to five the number of candidates in the race to fill three board seats. All five candidates advance directly to the general election.
Brady Rhodes of 1009 W. Ninth St. filed Monday as the fifth candidate for the Hastings Board of Education. All five candidates advance to the general election where four will be chosen to fill board positions.
Other contested races in the primary election include those for Adams County assessor and sheriff.
Tricia M. Allen of Blue Hill and Jackie Russell of Hastings will vie to become the next county assessor. Both are Republicans. The winner in the primary will advance to the general election uncontested.
In another primary contest, Ric Hallett of Hastings is challenging incumbent Sheriff Gregg Magee of Hastings. Both are Republicans. The winner will advance to the general election uncontested.
Election filings began Dec. 2, 2013. Incumbent candidates were required to file by Feb. 18. The primary election will be May 13.
