Coach Zac Foster feels that more one-on-one attention from a bench full of coaches helped Adams Central's players get to this week's state boys basketball tournament in Lincoln.
This season, the Patriots have 35 players on their roster in addition to seven coaches. That breaks down to five players per coach.
Foster, who teaches science at Adams Central, said that while some question the need for seven coaches, it is no different than giving students the best student-to-teacher ratio in the classroom.
"In education in general, the first question should be: 'Are you doing what's best for kids?' In the classroom or on the court, if this is what's best for kids, it's a no-brainer," he said.
