LINCOLN — The Minden Lady Whippet basketball team went home from the Class C-1 state championship final Saturday with a treasure that no clock, buzzer or opponent could steal.
It’s a Minden-exclusive recipe — the collective pride of an entire town, long hours dedicated by parents and coaches, and the thickening agent formed by the bonds of friendship shared by the young teammates.
Their whole community witnessed it as the Whippets left the court Saturday at Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena — Minden’s poise is an unshakable poise.
“What’s important to me is the quality of their character,” said Melissa Wheelock, school superintendent, during the adrenaline-filled championship finish. “This season and this tournament are full of life lessons. These young women know the value of hard work and the dedication that is required of success.
“The poise they have when they come in front of a crowd like this is what is special to me.”
