A Hastings man was arrested following a public domestic disturbance early Friday evening.
Sgt. Brian Hessler of the Hastings Police Department said a disturbance between a man and woman started around 5 p.m. near the 1400 block of Eastside Boulevard.
“At some point during the altercation the female tried to flee the area and was chased by an individual who was later arrested,” Hessler said.
That man was 49-year-old Michael Kulhanek of 104 E. 14th St., who was charged with second-degree domestic assault; use of a weapon to commit a felony; and willful reckless driving.
Hessler said Kulhanek chased the woman in a red Chevrolet Astro van and at one point struck her with the vehicle. She sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
Portions of the case are still under investigation, Hessler said. He could not release the woman’s name or the nature of the pair’s relationship so as to not identify her.
The incident itself did not last long, Hessler said. HPD officers were on scene for about an hour.
While the incident was public, it occurred in a contained area, a one-block radius around the intersection of 14th Street and Eastside Boulevard.
“There was portions of this incident that occurred while they were on foot and there was portions that occurred while he was in the vehicle and she was on foot,” Hessler said.
