LINCOLN — 3. 5. 10. 22. 23. 25. 40.
These numbers compose the senior roster of a team of young men who have worn out football cleats and torn up paint on the basketball court since they were third-graders playing pee wee sports in the Doniphan-Trumbull community.
Slough. Buhr. Williams. Sawyers. Koch. Wiltfong. Toben.
These are the names who have inspired younger students, their families, their teachers and their community by the heart and character they bring to their games and to their lives.
As the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals battled their way through a gritty semifinal game against Archbishop Bergen at the Class C-2 boys state basketball tournament Friday evening, these are the characters that shone.
“I love these boys’ heart and their tough-as-nails spirit,” said Beth Slough, mom to senior Jordan Slough, during the game.
