A feasibility study focused on determining whether Hastings needs another convention center moved forward this week, with seven meetings held at the Holiday Inn Express on Wednesday and Thursday.
Conducted by VenuWorks, a consulting management team based in Ames, Iowa, the study aims to identify possible locations for a new center, how much it will cost, and how best to fund it. This week's meetings sought input from various entities that would use the new center should it be determined the city needs one.
Kaleena Fong, executive director of Adams County Convention & Visitors Bureau, said Thursday that early indications seem to suggest that many would-be customers are excited to see the project move forward. Based on input received from meeting and event planners, hotel patrons, decorators, school officials, health care representatives, non-profit organizations, service clubs, city and chamber employees, Fong said she is anxious to see how the study plays out.
