SUTTON — Walt Davis acknowledges that it's going to be a long, uphill battle to return to his former home with permanent housing.
The Clay Center and Sutton fire departments responded to a Feb. 6 fire that destroyed the trailer house in the unincorporated town of Verona, two miles north and 4 1/2 miles east of Clay Center, where Walt and his wife, Lois, lived for 40 years. The couple raised their four children there.
Members of the Platte Valley Antique Machinery Association and Sutton American Legion have organized a benefit for the Davises, slated for 4:30-7 p.m. Sunday at the Sutton Legion, 103 E. Forrest St.
The freewill donation supper will include a soup, sandwich and dessert meal and a bake sale.
The intent of the benefit is to replace for the Davises as much of what was lost as possible, PVAMA secretary Donna Wilton said.
