Faces of Tribland: Former principal plays drums for musicals, symphony

Phill Parker plays during a rehearsal for "Footloose" Monday
night at Adams Central.

It may be easy to confuse Hastings resident Phill Parker with that other similarly named superhero, Peter Parker. After all, like Spider-Man, wherever help is needed, Phill Parker will be there.

But it's doubtful Spidey could drum this well.

This weekend Phill Parker will be keeping the beat on trap set in the orchestra pit for the Adams Central High School spring musical "Footloose." Earlier this month he was playing percussion for the Hastings Community Theatre's "Forever Plaid."

"Working with him is a piece of cake," said Linda Johnson, AC's vocal music teacher and musical director for "Footloose." "Whatever directions I'm giving he follows. Because he's a former band teacher and musician he'll offer suggestions, which are always helpful, too."
