Area organizations Thursday reminded area citizens about the need to be prepared for disasters during a Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event at the American Red Cross.
Severe Weather Awareness Week in Nebraska wraps up Saturday and several organizations involved in providing emergency assistance gathered to network and share ideas. Agencies included the Adams County Emergency Management, American Red Cross, Hastings Convenient Care, Hastings Fire and Rescue, Hastings Police Department and Heartland Pet Connection.
Donna Titman, executive director of the local Red Cross chapter, said the event started as a celebration of 95 years in the community. Other organizations were invited because of their connection in providing emergency services to citizens.
Titman also suggested a couple of free apps from the Red Cross for the iPhone or iPad that provide first-aid tips and severe weather alerts.
