Hastings toddler in critical condition

A Hastings toddler was flown to an Omaha hospital Saturday evening after being run over at his home, Hastings Police Sgt. Steve Murphy said.

Aldo Yoel Ramirez-Lopez, 3, remains in critical condition this morning at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Murphy said the boy was struck by a SUV around 6:45 p.m. in front of his residence at Smitty’s Trailer Court in the 800 block of South Pine Avenue.

Hastings Police Sgt. Jim Baldwin told The Associated Press that the boy’s uncle, 21-year-old Miguel Lopez of Hastings, was parking a Ford Expedition and didn’t see the boy approaching from between several parked vehicles.

The boy was taken to Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings and later flown to Omaha for treatment.
