Minden cruises to district win

Minden's Brooke Kissinger breaks through coverage from
Grand Island Central Catholic's Emily Herbek and Kelsey
Flaherty during the Class C1-5 district final Friday in
Hastings.

The first four minutes of the Class C-1, District 5 championship game all but told the story about how the matchup between top-ranked Minden and Grand Island Central Catholic would play out.

The Crusaders turned the ball over on seven of their first nine possessions, crossing the 3-point line just once in that span against the Whippets swarming full-court trap defense.
Offensively, Minden had too many open opportunities and connected on five of its first seven shots. By the time GICC scored its first points — a lay up from Emma Benton with 3:57 left in the first quarter — Minden owned an 11-0 lead.

The game never really slowed down from there as Minden (25-0) cruised to a 58-17 win Friday night at Hastings College's Lynn Farrell Arena, confirming its sixth-straight state tournament appearance. The Crusaders finish their season at 11-14, not having enough playoff points to earn an at-large berth to Lincoln.
