HHS places seventh to end season

Hastings High's Brandon Kile earned a 4-1 victory over
Papillion-LaVista's Michael Conley in their 113-pound
match Saturday.

KEARNEY — The Hastings High wrestling team knew it had a tough draw going into Saturday’s state dual championships at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The Tigers dropped their first two duals to Grand Island — the eventual state champion — and to Papillion-La Vista. HHS defeated Lincoln Southwest to finish in seventh place.

Hastings High’s Errich Holston, Kaleb Neugin and Huy Truong did not wrestle Saturday.

“I think it was pretty much what we expected. Going into it knowing that we were going to be missing a few guys kind of put a damper on it a litte bit because we’ve been competitive with these guys all year,” said HHS head coach Brian Laux. “You take out two or three guys that end up totaling 80 wins for you during the season, that hurts. But I thought our guys competed really well (Saturday). We got some opportunities for some kids to get a few more matches.”
