Shelton/Kenesaw sends seniors out with win

Shelton/Kenesaw 152-pounder Jack Duffy pinned Centennial's Kyle Pankoke
in the first period during their teams' dual Saturday at the state dual
tournament in Kearney.

KEARNEY — The Shelton/Kenesaw wrestling team went 1-2 at Saturday’s state dual championships at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The Devildogs dropped their first two matches, 55-18 to Sargent/Burwell-Loup County and 51-30 to Central City, but topped Centennial 43-30.

Shelton/Kenesaw head coach Joel Ferguson said it felt good to end the season with a win.

“It kind of validates the tough season we had. We haven’t come away with a lot of team trophies because we’ve increased our schedule so much that we just missed out,” he said. “It validates all of the tough work they put in. The kids feel good about it, and it’s good to end the season on a winning note as a team. Hopefully, it carries into the offseason with all of the hard work they’re going to put in there.”
