CRETE — Two minutes into the second quarter, the Bruning-Davenport/Shickley boys basketball team led Lourdes Central Catholic 14-9.

It was all downhill the rest of the way for BDS in the Class D-1, District 1 final Tuesday night at Doane College.

Class D-1 No. 6 Lourdes Central Catholic (20-6) held the Eagles scoreless over the final six minutes of the second quarter and dominated the third quarter on the way to posting a 59-43 win to clinch a berth in next week’s state tournament.

“We couldn’t get anything going offensively,” said BDC coach Fred Kluck, whose squad ends the season 19-7. “Defensively at halftime, I thought we were right where we wanted to be, but offensively we just couldn’t get anything to go.”
