I
Blue Devils hungry for state

Kenesaw's Dalton Bender shoots against High Plains' Alex

Grand Island.

After winning its first 23 games of the season, the Kenesaw boys basketball team fell in the district championship last week.

That setback — a 62-57 loss to High Plains Community — didn't prevent the Blue Devils from making the state tournament as a wild-card team, but it dropped the team down to the fifth seed.

Kenesaw (23-1) opens against fourth-seeded Burwell (24-2) at Lincoln North Star on Thursday at 8:45 p.m.

And, according to head coach Jack Einrem, the Blue Devils are hungry. That last loss is something that is fueling the team toward state.

"They're tired of practice," the coach said.
Because Kenesaw hasn't faced Burwell yet this season, the team has spent a lot of time studying film on the Longhorns.
