D-T, Sutton rematch set

Doniphan-Trumbull's Riley Wiltfong puts up a shot against the
defense of Sutton's Nicholas Hohensee in the Class C-2
district final March 3 in Hastings.

It has been a little more than a week since the Doniphan-Trumbull and Sutton boys basketball teams went head-to-head in the Class C-2, District 4 championship.

The game went into two overtime periods before Sutton finally came away with a 43-39 victory. The win gave the Mustangs a state tournament berth and forced the Cardinals to rely on the wild card for its ticket to Lincoln.

Doniphan-Trumbull head coach Steve Hartman said it was hard loss to take.

"We took Tuesday off after that loss on Monday. It was a heart-wrenching, hard-fought game. Our kids, they threw everything into that game," he said. "People, I think, get the thought that we knew we were in and we weren't going to play hard, but, my goodness, anybody who was there can attest to the fact that that game was about as hard fought and competitive as you're going to see."
