Broncos drop home opener

A strong, crisp wind caused chilly temperatures at Prairie Ridge Park on Wednesday where the Hastings College baseball team hosted York in the Broncos’ first home game of the season.

The home opener, which was played at the complex because of the construction on Duncan Field, did not go as the Broncos had hoped as they fell to preseason NAIA No. 6 York 12-5.

“They beat us in every aspect of the game to be honest with you,” said first-year head coach Steve Spongberg. “I think their pitching staff did a nice job, and we just didn’t get off to a very good start.”
