LINCOLN — It has been a year of firsts for Doniphan-Trumbull. In the fall, the Cardinals won their first-ever state championship. On Thursday, D-T kept the trend going with its first win at the state basketball tournament.
Doniphan-Trumbull was agressive on both sides of the ball, taking down Sutton 40-27 in a rematch of the Class C-2, District 4 championship. The second-seeded Cardinals advanced to play No. 3 Archbishop Bergan, which defeated No. 6 Southern Valley 68-59.
D-T head coach Steve Hartman said the difference between Thursday’s win and the March 3 loss to Sutton was his team’s execution on offense.
“We just had to be better offensively, and tonight, we executed a lot better on the offensive end,” he said. “I thought Creighton was great in the lane and we hit just enough perimeter shots with Lorenzo and Riley to keep them honest.”
