Nolan won the Class A 106-pound weight class at the state
tournament.
In 1990, Brian Laux stepped on the wrestling mat, ready to battle for a state championship. He was part of the Hastings High team that had won the state championship just two years prior, but the Tigers had not seen a state champion since.
Laux did not win the title, settling for a silver medal.
Fast-forward 23 years later, and Laux was back on the mat for another shot at a state championship, but this time he was in the coach's corner, watching his son, Nolan, battle for that gold medal that eluded the Laux family two decades earlier.
Nolan was named this year's All-Tribland wrestler of the year after winning the Class A 106-pound state championship, en route to a perfect 43-0 record.
