Women's Elite Division crowns new champ

Nebraska Sports Council's Lindsay Ducey is defended by the
Lopes' Megan Becker and Lea Ann Jameson (12) in the
championship game of the Whoopers and Hoopers Women's
Elite Division Sunday at Lynn Farrell Arena.

After falling short in last year's Whoopers and Hoopers Women's Elite Division championship, Nebraska Sports Council redeemed itself with a victory Sunday at Lynn Farrell Arena.

Nebraska Sports Council won the finals 52-51 over the Lopes in a game that came down to the final seconds.

"Last year, when we played, we were really tired," said former Hastings College basketball player Lindsay Ducey. "We probably could have won, but we just didn't have the fuel to keep going. It feels good to win this year because I think we had a really good team this year, and we had all of the players that we needed to win."

Men's Elite Division
For the second consecutive year, and third time in the last five years, the University of Nebraska at Kearney Alumni team won the Whoopers and Hoopers Men's Elite division.

The UNK Alumni beat the University of Nebraska-Omaha Alumni, which won five games to get into the championship after losing in the first round, 61-57 Sunday at Lynn Farrell Arena to complete the repeat.

"There are a lot of great teams that come to this tournament. We're just fortunate to come out on top the last two years," UNK Alumni captain Joey Cochran said. "It's all about family and friends this weekend. We just like being able to get out here and play together."
