Tiger boys hang on for OT win

As the result of an ongoing drought, the Hastings High soccer fields were brown, crunchy and dusty for Thursday’s season-opening games.

And for the Class B No. 10 Tigers and their opponent Holdrege, offensive scoring was also in a dry spell.

Neither squad netted a goal in the first 80 minutes of regulation, but it was the Tigers that finally broke through five minutes into the first overtime with a goal by Phillip Pedroza.
The Tigers (1-0) held on from there to earn the win over the Dusters (0-1).

“I saw the ball come in and I saw that the defender was a little behind me, so I just took off,” Pedroza said of his game-clinching goal.
