Hastings High head girls soccer coach Chris Pedroza knew that his squad’s offense would be strong heading into this season.
In Thursday’s season opener against Class B No. 10 Holdrege, the No. 7 Tigers proved their coach was right.
Kaitlyn Pawloski had a hat trick, Marika Van Brocklin added a pair of goals and Alex Schmidt had two assists as Hastings High (1-0) routed Holdrege (0-1) 6-0 at the HHS soccer fields.
“We had some experienced players coming back for us. KP and Marika are two of our key contributors coming back into the attack we do offensively. Then, Alex did a good job today finding those gaps between defenders, playing those through balls, and just connecting the pieces up front for us,” Pedroza said. “Our goal is to win our first game every year, and obviously today, the girls came out prepared and wanted to play and I couldn’t ask for anything better. The effort was always there.”
