KENESAW — After the field events were completed at the Kenesaw invite, the Superior girls track and field team held a comfortable lead — a situation the Wildcats became familiar with last season, only to not win the invitational after the running events.
But this year, it's different. This season, Superior has the talent in its running events to finish the meet.
The Wildcats controlled the invite from start to finish, tallying 184 points — 106 points more than second-place finisher Doniphan-Trumbull. Blue Hill finished third with 62 points, followed by Franklin (58) and Silver Lake (48).
Superior won seven gold medals Thursday, including four from field events.
"We've been doing a lot of running, which paid off today as we had a lot more girls score this year in the running (events)," Superior head coach Carla Hoins said. "That's been our goal this year, because last year we'd be leading most track meets after the field events, but then we wouldn't score well in the runs. Today, we scored really well with all of the girls."
