The Hastings High girls track and field team went up against some tough competition in its home invite, but the Tigers were still able to take home a third-place finish.
HHS tallied 51 points on Friday. Doniphan-Trumbull was right behind the Tigers with 50 points, finishing in fourth. Holdrege won the event with 167 points.
"The exciting part is it definitely gives our kids the chance to get some measurements and see what good competition is going to bring out of you," said Hastings High head coach Scott Rosno. "It kind of addresses the idea of why you're doing the things you're doing in practice. When you get some nice track weather it gives your kids an optimistic view on why you want to keep going."
Libby Knapple brought home the Tigers' only gold medal, winning the discus competition with a throw of 116 feet, 11 inches. She was also third in the shot put (33-10).
