The late winter weather kept the Hastings College golf team indoors for an extended period of time, but it couldn’t stop the Broncos from posting their best score of the year.
Hastings College placed second in its own invite Friday at Lochland Country Club, shooting a team total of 303. Bellevue University, which wasn’t in the field of competitors until Thursday, won the invite championship with a score of 298.
Going into the tournament, Broncos’ head coach Roger Doerr wasn’t expecting his team to shoot as well as it did, given the fact that few had been on the course much this spring.
“I have to admit, (our finish) was a surprise. I thought we had a really competitive field coming in,” Doerr said. “We didn’t play that far away from Bellevue. That’s going to be a real boost for the kids... We had kids that played really well, particularly at the top of the program. All 17 of the kids did themselves fine.”
