High schoolers take shot at trapshoot competition

DONIPHAN — For Louise Pavilionis, a foreign exchange student from Denmark, shooting at the 45th annual Cornhusker High School and Junior High Trapshoot was a new experience.

Pavilionis is attending Hastings High School for her senior year as part of the Explorer Foundation program. Her host family participated in trap shooting, so she joined.
"I thought it would be fun," she said.

With the gun safety education requirements and expense of ammunition and firearms in Denmark, she said few have the means to legally own firearms.

Even though she hasn't shot long, Pavilionis hit 61 of 75 targets in Friday's competition. But she hoped to do better.
