HPS surprises couple at music program

Schools Thursday night at Hastings Middle School.

After 46 years of service, two longtime music instructors for Hastings Public Schools are turning in their conductor’s batons.

Jim and Lynn Kaiser, who teach elementary music, band and strings, were honored during a band concert Thursday at Hastings Middle School for their years of service to the district.

“I want to thank you for your advocacy of music. You’re strong advocates of this program,” said HPS Superintendent Craig Kautz. “Your careers are truly an inspiration to us all. You truly are special educators.”

The dedication to the Kaisers was a surprise for the couple orchestrated by instrumental music instructor Rick Matticks and the Kaisers’ daughter Chris Niemeyer, who teaches band at Zion Lutheran School.
