Mom, boyfriend charged

The mother of a Hastings boy killed last month with a rifle fired by his brother has been charged along with her boyfriend with negligent child abuse that resulted in death.

The Adams County Attorney's Office filed charges Thursday against Amanda Pecor, 29, and Matthew Edwards, 30, both of 907 N. Saunders Ave. Arrest warrants were issued Friday for both of them.

Edwards and Pecor each face a count of negligent child abuse resulting in death, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

According to an arrest affidavit, the two had been warned to lock up firearms and any other weapons because of the behavior exhibited by the victim's 9-year-old brother in the months leading up to the fatal shooting that occurred April 18.

Beau Pecor, 4, died after being shot by his brother in the home.
