Council invites proposals to expand auditorium

The city of Hastings is inviting competitive proposals for the redevelopment and expansion of the City Auditorium, with the intention of transforming the venue into a new city conference center that will complement the downtown business district .

Earlier this month, the city was awarded a $750,000 grant from the state for updates at the auditorium building. In addition, members of the Hastings City Council unanimously have called for redevelopment proposals that they hope will help them brainstorm the next chapter of the auditorium.

The council heard a presentation on the plans and unanimously approved a request for proposals at its meeting Monday.

“The auditorium is a wonderful facility and we have the opportunity here to bring it into a new age of usability for us. It could also spur something even bigger in our downtown and throughout our city,” Councilman Michael Krings said at the meeting.
