Nearly 250 graduates crossed the stage at Hastings High School Sunday as members of the class of 2013 turned their tassels, received their diplomas and joined thousands of others as new Hastings High alumni.
The HHS gymnasium was packed with people, including many who stood in the doorway, during the nearly 90-minute commencement ceremony.
Seven graduates shared the stage as the co-valedictorians who gave commencement speeches sharing stories of high school and words of wisdom with their classmates while wishing a happy Mother's Day to all moms in the audience.
"Each and every one of us sitting on the gym floor is thinking, 'What is next? Where do I go from here? Where's my life headed?' " Adam Heyen said in his speech. "Today I want you to look at your future as a great mystery, not a scary, ambiguous mystery but a wonderful, magical mystery."
