Magee wins sheriff’s race

Gregg Magee won the fight to retain his position as Adams County sheriff by a landslide Tuesday.

The incumbent defeated his opponent, Ric Hallett of Hastings, by a 3-to-1 margin to secure the Republican nomination for the seat. Magee will run unopposed in the general election Nov. 11.

Magee won 3,839 votes, or 76.76 percent of the total. Hallett received 1,155 votes, or 23.10 percent.

“We felt good going in,” he said. “We knew there was a group of people who no matter what we did or said were not going to change their minds because of the long term he (Magee) had. We didn’t think it would be a landslide.”
