Hastings reaches 96 degrees Tuesday

Shaylee Dishman, 4, runs through the sprinkler Tuesday
afternoon on East H Street.

Less than two weeks ago, it snowed in some parts of Nebraska and Iowa. On Tuesday it seemed white hot in some parts of Nebraska and Iowa, as record heat baked the states.

It hit 100 before 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Airport, breaking the 1915 record of 96 degrees.

Officials say Tuesday's high was 101 in Omaha, 102 in Grand Island, 103 in Norfolk and 108 in Tekamah.

The high in Hastings was 96, just one degree short of the record for the date.

In Iowa, the high hit 106 in Sioux City, 102 in Carroll and 100 in Denison and Harlan.
