Then & Now: Election Commissioner

Then: After seeing a public notice about the need for a new election commissioner in Adams County in 1985, Chris Lewis successfully put her name in the ring.

And for the past 27 years, there her name remained.

As the county’s first and only election commissioner and longtime county clerk, Lewis had been a staple in area election proceedings.

Although the primary and general election seasons demanded long hours and held high expectations, Lewis enjoyed the rush.

“Of all the experiences I had as county clerk, elections were always my favorite,” Lewis said.

Now: Lewis retired from the county in February 2013 and, as of Tuesday, she officially passed the election torch to current Adams County Clerk Ramona Thomas.

“This was the first election where I was really flying solo,” Thomas said following the primary election this week.
