HEARTWELL — Ninety-nine years after it rose above the Nebraska prairie here, and 22 years after the last students walked out its doors, the old Heartwell school building may be approaching a new chapter in its history.
The Kearney County Historical Society, which owns the building and the nine-tenths of an acre it stands on at the west edge of Heartwell, is offering the property for sale by bid.
Sealed offers are due by June 10 and will be opened June 15, said Jane Kuehn of rural Heartwell, society president.
“I guess everything is going to be at the buyer’s discretion,” she said. “They’ll want to have a ‘see’ before they make a bid.”
