Hastings natives in Oklahoma react to damage wrought by tornado

Two Hastings natives shared their emotions this morning about the massive tornado that ripped through Moore, Okla., killing dozens while leveling homes, businesses and schools.

Hastings High graduate Brett Schlueter and Adams Central graduate Ryan Bruna are both fairly new residents of the Oklahoma City metro area.

At Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Schlueter was counting his blessings this morning. Schlueter, the son of Hastings residents Sam and Tamera Schlueter, has lived in the suburb of Norman since 2010.

"The destruction from yesterday is tough to really comprehend, honestly," he said this morning via cellphone. "I haven't even seen it, just in the pictures and reports we've been getting. It's tough to even describe. We were extremely lucky where we're at.

"From what we've seen in the pictures there were entire neighborhoods that were wiped clean. It's crazy to see that where there used to be a house there's nothing left but a foundation, to the point where there's not even grass left on the ground. It's wiped completely clean, down to the dirt."
