G.I.-based air medical transport team ready in an emergency

An air emergency medical transport company with a new base in Grand Island is wanting to become one of the first responders to life-threatening emergencies.

A crew from LifeTeam presented an overview of air transport and landing zone creation to a group of area agencies that provide mutual aid to one another. The Kansas-based company opened a branch in January at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island.

The bimonthly meeting of the mutual aid group Tuesday at Lincoln Park Fire Station coincided with the start of National Emergency Medical Service Week.

Instead of waiting until EMS professionals determine the severity of the injuries, the LifeTeam crew said they would prefer early activation and be notified with the initial call.
