County makes its support for veterans home official

The Adams County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Tuesday to support a bid to bring the Central Nebraska Veterans Home to Hastings, a project that would bring up to 400 jobs and thousands of dollars in retail revenue to the city.

The resolution supports the bid as prepared by members of the city and county staffs, as well as the Hastings Economic Development Corp.

The state will be accepting bids from four Nebraska communities for the 225-bed facility, which will be relocated from the veterans home and hospital campus in Grand Island. North Platte, Kearney and Grand Island also are submitting proposals.

However, the county board agreed Tuesday that the intent of the bid process is not to compete with other communities, but to pool resources in the Hastings community to support the veterans and their families who will be affected by the move.
