Splash and learn

morning during SPLASH week at the Hastings Family YMCA.
"We're working up to the diving boards but right now we're

´╗┐Children ages 6-13 learned to be safe around water during Splash Week at the Hastings YMCA.

This year, the group was able to use a new set of 30 lifejackets donated by Cabela's in Kearney. The Hastings YMCA recently discarded five old lifejackets that were in disrepair.

Lorraine Atwater, YMCA aquatics coordinator, said the Splash program teaches all aspects of water safety. The program coincides with National Safe Boating Week.

"The concept is to learn safety so we don't have as many instances of kids having problems in the community," she said.
