FACES OF TRIBLAND: Thayer County couple raising family, farm

Jamie and Jon Yoachim and their 16-month-old daughter

DESHLER — When Jon and Jamie Yoachim went to college, he studied economics and real estate and she studied nursing.

Little did they know they would become farmers.

The Yoachims returned to their native Thayer County in September 2012 after living for a year and a half on a small, "off-grid" farm near Unadilla. They raised cattle, hogs, sheep, chicken, ducks and turkeys on the Otoe County spread they called the Open Sky Farm.

The name of the business remained the same when they moved to Deshler last year.

Jon and Jamie, both 29, each graduated from high school in 2002 — she from Deshler, he from Thayer Central.
