Without much discussion, members of the Hastings City Council approved the first of three readings of a proposed ordinance that would ban residents from parking vehicles and trailers in front yards and side yards.
The proposed measure must pass two more readings, which could generate more discussion.
“I’m sure at second reading we will probably have some questions on this, and we will be dealing with things that we will have to talk about,” said Mayor Vern Powers as council members were voting.
The proposed ordinance would prevent residents from parking a vehicle or trailer within the front or side yard of a residence, except in a driveway. The measure does not refer to parking in a back yard in any way.
