Hastings High assistant principal Tracy Douglas has accepted an offer to be the district's new activities director, a school official said this morning.
"She obviously has a great knowledge of the school and she's an excellent communicator," said Hastings High principal Jay Opperman, who has been serving as interim activities director until the position is filled. "We feel she works well with both parents and students. We feel the work she has done as an assistant principal transfers well into the athletic director position."
Douglas, a 1989 graduate of Hastings High, was one of several internal and external candidates who were interviewed for the position. While Douglas already has began the transition into her new position, she won't officially carry the title of activities director until sometime in June when the board of education is scheduled to consider approval of her appointment.
The activities director position suddenly became available April 11 when the board accepted the resignation of activities director Gregg Holliday. His resignation takes effect June 30, the end of the 2012-13 school year.
