Relay For Life takes aim at cancer

Casey Aguilar is ready to walk in the Relay For Life event
with his superhero cape Saturday at Hastings High. As a
newborn Aguilar was diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma,
now one year old he his cancer-free.

For Gina Wheeler, 22, of Hastings, Friday wasn't the first time she had participated in the annual Relay for Life of Adams County. What made this walk special is that it was her first laps as a cancer survivor.

Wheeler, an esthetician at Blades Hair and Nails, was diagnosed with Phase 1 follicular thyroid cancer in December 2013. Within a month, she was in surgery, with radioactive iodine treatments following in March.

Remarkably, she is now considered "almost cured," as she puts it, with but another year of monitoring standing between her and a clean slate of health.
